Biraban Local Aboriginal Land Council is a leading organisation in the West Lake Macquarie area, dedicated to building and strengthening partnerships with government and non-government organisations to contribute to a positive and sustainable future for the local Aboriginal community.

The Position

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) role requires a strong business management capability, but above all, a leader who builds and maintains trust with Biraban's members, community, and broader stakeholder group.

This is a unique opportunity for a committed and progressive leader who is passionate about steering the organisation in the right direction and ensuring its sustainability and growth.

About You

To become the CEO of Biraban, you will need to demonstrate strengths in the following areas:

  • Naturally engaging and authentic communication skills, with the ability to adapt to a diverse audience
  • Experience in generating revenue through grants, asset utilisation, and creating new income streams
  • Ability to improve and ensure solid systems, governance frameworks, procedures, and policies are in place
  • Excellent negotiation skills with various stakeholders
  • Experience in working with a Board and establishing transparent communication
  • Strong financial management skills
  • Knowledge and appreciation of local Aboriginal issues
  • Ability to interpret legislation and build practices that support adherence to legislative requirements

The CEO will be required to operate under the guidelines and legislation of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (NSW) and maintain up-to-date knowledge of how the Act relates to business operations.
