Senior Mining Engineer Role Overview

This is a challenging and rewarding position for a skilled Senior Mining Engineer to join our team in Papua New Guinea. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support to our mining operations, including planning, coordinating and executing mine production activities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mining engineering, with experience in hard rock mining and a proven track record of delivering results in a fast-paced environment. They will also have excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with national employees and contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and drive mine production activities as required (daily/weekly/monthly) mine plans and reports to enable the business to meet its objectives in terms of production and cost.
  • Effective communication of all engineering plans and schedules to the underground workforce.
  • Mentor junior national engineers in drill & blast, ventilation, dewatering, backfilling and production processes.
  • Regular review of established processes and standards to maximise economic profit for the operation.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of the UG mobile equipment fleet: Jumbos, loaders, trucks, longhole drill, diamond drill, raisebore.
  • Ensure QAQC of explosives charging practices. Establishes schedules for drill and blast barging for the underground mining at K92 Mining.
  • Monitor the performance of any contractors involved in these activities.
  • Reviews with other engineering specialist, mining production targets and ore specifications and liaises with process personnel accordingly.
About You

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering with a strong production focus.
  • 6 years plus of underground hard rock mining experience.
  • Prior experience working in PNG.
  • Experienced with Deswik 3D modelling software - essential.
  • Ability to analyze numerical and geographical data.
  • Well-developed planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Sound planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
  • Actively promotes a safe and healthy culture.
