About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our Melbourne-based team, playing a pivotal role in developing advanced data analytics, managing data pipelines, and ensuring robust data governance to support our expansive global operations.

As a key member of our Data Platform Team, you will handle information across our entire platform, focusing on optimising data flow and integrity. This is your chance to have a significant impact on our operations and decision-making processes by enhancing our data capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable data pipelines.
  • Enhance data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems.
  • Work closely with product engineering teams, data analysts, and business analysts to provide detailed analytics and reporting.
  • Manage data storage solutions, ensuring scalability and security.
  • Develop and maintain scalable data architecture to support our business growth.
  • Foster a culture of sharing knowledge and continuous improvement within the team.

In this role, you will be enthusiastic about using data to solve complex problems and drive business value, advocate for best practices in data management and continuous improvement, enjoy tackling complex challenges in a supportive and agile team environment, support the growth of your team members through mentoring and sharing constructive feedback, and take ownership of the stability, performance, and optimization of our data services.

Requirements
  • Strong experience with Python, AWS services like CloudFormation, AWS Glue, Lambda, and data storage solutions like S3 and Firehose.
  • Proficiency in building and managing ETL processes, data lakes and/or data warehouses.
  • Familiarity with Scala is a plus, with a willingness to learn otherwise.

We are looking for candidates with at least 5 years of hands-on, commercial experience in data engineering or equivalent experience in machine learning/data science, transit payments experience, a deep understanding of the implications of technical decisions on business outcomes, an enthusiastic, proactive, and self-motivated approach to continuous learning, and excellent coordination and communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

About Our Salary

The estimated salary for this role is around $120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience.
