About the Role

As a Leading Border Operations Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the security and integrity of Australia's borders. This position is part of the Australian Border Operations Centre (ABOC) team, which provides a single source of truth on ABF operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering operational objectives through the coordination, prioritisation, and delivery of activities and response actions nationally, consistent with the ABF's operational priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively to build and sustain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to maintain a capability to support a Government response to a range of incidents and major events
  • For Shift roles - Work a 24/7 work roster with a four-days-on, four-days-off work pattern including overnight shifts
  • Actively contribute to a positive work culture and support changing circumstances and organisational focus
  • Demonstrate the ability to acquire and maintain an understanding of the Migration and Citizenship legislation and an ability to further research to enable appropriate decisions, working knowledge of Australia's border entry requirements, policies, and procedural instructions and how they impact on decisions across the border continuum
  • Ability to display high level of technical acumen, demonstrating an aptitude for problem solving, analysis, and ability to implement alternative courses of action
  • Demonstrate strong personal drive, initiative, and enthusiasm
  • Ability to prioritise workload to achieve a positive outcome within a short timeframe. High level of attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy including applying appropriate grammar in written communication
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation to make decisions in situations involving a degree of ambiguity or uncertainty
  • Proactively engage with broader ABF, stakeholders, industry, and Government to clarify data and produce timely reporting
  • Work independently or under limited guidance in relation to their area of expertise
  • Exercise judgement to make decisions governed by the application of rules, regulations, best practice principles, or the agency's operating instructions and procedures, under the support and general direction of a higher classification level
  • Ability to maintain situational awareness of all correspondence and ensure the Operation Commander (OPCOMD) is briefed on all key elements, critical incidents, and outstanding tasks
  • Undertake procedural, clerical, administrative support, or operational tasks
  • Analyse, assess, and respond to correspondence, completing procedural, clerical, administrative support, or operational tasks when required.

You will also be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 (AGSVA) security clearance, and meet the minimum qualifications and skills outlined in the attached job description.
