Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated professional to undertake research in laser satellite communications, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in field trials, including occasional night time work at local and possibly remote locations.
  • Engage with collaborators and clients, potentially requiring domestic and international travel.
  • Conduct research and development focused on identifying, analysing and countering threats to Defence and national security through electronic means.
  • Develop survivable tactical communications and electronic warfare solutions for contested and degraded cyber electromagnetic environments.
  • Undertake research and development of, and provide S&T advice on, satellite communications for resilient deployed and mobile tactical networking.

Requirements:

  • Aptitude and interest in hardware system development and experimentation.
  • Programming experience applied to one or more of the following: hardware control, numerical modelling, data processing, data acquisition.
  • Experience in one or more of these languages: python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, C/C++.
  • A high level of interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve work outcomes.
  • Capacity and willingness to broaden skill and knowledge base from those encompassed by formal training and background.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience in optical systems and lasers, and/or space optical systems and telescopes is desirable.
  • Knowledge of optical communication systems and/or space orbital dynamics is desirable but not essential.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in field trials.
