Role Overview

This is a key role within NSW Health's Finance Strategy team, providing strategic business support and advice to branches within the Ministry.

The successful candidate will lead and provide expert financial advice regarding financial performance and budget management of Ministry branches, supporting the State budget process and providing expert financial advice to support strategic initiatives and opportunities to prioritise and optimise use of public funds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert advice to support the effective financial management and financial performance of Ministry branches.
  • Lead and support a small team to ensure the effective functioning of the Finance Strategy team and broader finance division.
  • Lead the preparation of expert financial advice regarding MoH financial performance, new policy costings, benefits and identification of funding sources for policy proposals.
  • Provide expert advice to support the annual budget cycle and year-end financial processes for Ministry branches.
  • Identify opportunities that aim to prioritise and optimise the use of public funds including reform, reprioritisation and offsets/savings opportunities.
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective functioning of the Finance Division through the identification and implementation of improvements in financial practices and processes.
  • Support the Director, Finance Strategy in the development and delivery of new policy proposals and measures, identifying interdependencies and leveraging resources to maximise efficiencies and achieve outcomes.
  • Prepare clear, effective high-quality correspondence, reports, submissions and briefings for the Director, Finance Strategy, Deputy Chief Financial Officer and executive stakeholders.
