Job Summary

The Professional Standards and Governance Command (PSGC) at Queensland Corrective Services is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Investigator to lead workplace investigations into allegations of misconduct or corrupt conduct made against QCS staff.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead and Manage Investigations

Lead and manage workplace investigations into allegations of misconduct or corrupt conduct made against QCS staff, ensuring that they are progressed to a high standard, taking into consideration the applicable law, policy/practice, risk prioritisation, complexity, and appropriate timeframes, with an appreciation of trauma-informed approaches.

Collect and Record Evidence

Collect, manage, and record all evidence, including physical, documentary, and verbal evidence, in a thorough and meticulous manner.

Conduct Interviews

Oversee and undertake interviews with witnesses and subject officers regarding allegations of misconduct or corrupt conduct in line with a trauma-informed approach, ensuring that all parties are treated with respect and dignity.

Assess Evidence

Assess evidence gathered during the investigation and determine any further lines of enquiry, using critical thinking and analytical skills to identify potential issues and areas for investigation.

Prepare Investigation Reports

Prepare investigation reports documenting the investigation and provide an analysis of the material, including whether the allegation is capable of being substantiated, in a clear and concise manner.

Build Relationships

Build and manage ongoing working relationships with a range of stakeholders critical to the progression of the investigation, including QCS staff, witnesses, and subject officers, within a broader Professional Standards and Governance Command focused on a culture of continuous improvement.

Professional Development

Maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to demonstrate continuing high-level and contemporary performance by actively participating in professional development opportunities, staying up-to-date with best practices and industry developments.

Team Culture

Promote and nurture a team culture that has good morale, values diversity, and shares knowledge and experience through informal and formal coaching and mentoring techniques, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.

Additional Duties

Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Professional Standards and Governance Command, in support of the organization's goals and objectives.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Extensive experience in workplace investigations, including leading and managing investigations, collecting and recording evidence, conducting interviews, and preparing investigation reports.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess evidence and determine further lines of enquiry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and manage relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a trauma-informed approach, ensuring that all parties are treated with respect and dignity.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, policies, and procedures, including those related to workplace investigations and employee conduct.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • High-level computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
