Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia beBeeEnvironmental Full time $120,000 - $167,129

The Australian and Queensland governments have jointly committed a substantial investment for the Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program, marking the largest single initiative to date. This program aims to reduce crash severity and frequency, particularly between Gympie and Cairns, through measures such as wide centre line treatments, audio tactile line marking, intersection upgrades, rest areas, pavement strengthening, overtaking lanes, and upgrades to narrow structures.

Project prioritisation will be guided by the Bruce Highway Advisory Council and both levels of government, with a corridor-wide fatigue management strategy informing rest area and stopping place upgrades.

As a Senior Environmental Officer, you will provide high-level guidance and environmental expertise to enable the project team to meet departmental and government environmental management commitments. The role is involved in the management of various environmental issues associated with the Queensland Transport and Road Investment Program (QTRIP), including noise, air quality, flora, fauna, soil, and water management.

Responsibilities
  • Lead environmental assessments and provide advice on environmental assessment and management requirements.
  • Manage external consultants and specialists, and lead project environmental assessments.
  • Promote effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and agencies concerned with environment issues.
  • Lead audits of environmental compliance associated with QTRIP projects.
  • Provide advice on environmental impacts and relevant legislative and departmental requirements.
  • Participate and represent the project team on external working committees.
  • Support implementation and monitoring of the Department's Environmental Management System and Practices.
