Animal Behaviour Management Professional

We are seeking a highly skilled Animal Behaviour Management Professional to join our team at Taronga Zoo Sydney and Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo. As a key member of our Wildlife Operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing our wildlife behaviour management program.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will have extensive experience in implementing and managing behavioural husbandry programs, including training and enrichment initiatives. You will work closely with our Managers, Veterinarians, Nutritionists, Keepers, and Behavioural Biologists to develop and implement environmental enrichment programs for our animals.
You will also provide advice and guidance on the design of exhibits to ensure that behavioural husbandry is factored into and prioritised in natural habitats. Additionally, you will assist with managing the priorities for our enrichment volunteers and develop and deliver training sessions and workshops for our Wildlife Keepers.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and supervise Taronga's behavioural husbandry programs (training and conditioning) in line with Taronga's Strategic and Wildlife Operations goals.
- Develop and implement environmental enrichment programs for Taronga's wildlife in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Support and ensure continual improvement in relevant policies, practices, and commitments, including behaviour biology, behavioural husbandry, and animal welfare.
- Provide advice and guidance on the design of exhibits to ensure that behavioural husbandry is factored into and prioritised in natural habitats.
- Assist with managing the priorities for Taronga's enrichment volunteers.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Certificate III in Captive Animals or equivalent.
- Extensive experience in exotic animal husbandry.
- A NSW C Class Drivers Licence (or ability to transfer a current unrestricted licence).
- TB Screening.
- Vaccinations against Zoonotic disease (in accordance with Taronga's Zoonotic disease vaccination matrix).
- A NSW Working with Children Check.
