As a key member of our leadership team, you will oversee the operations of Victoria Legal Aid's Chambers, providing high-level strategic, policy, and project management advice and support.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the operations of VLA Chambers, ensuring effective service delivery and work allocation.
- Develop and implement briefing policies and practices, working closely with the Chief Counsel to ensure they are effective, efficient, fair, and equitable.
- Manage organisational-wide projects, such as the Equitable Briefing Strategy and Trial Counsel Development Program.
- Coordinate professional development and training across a group of advocates.
- Lead a team of up to 8 direct reports and support regionally based staff.
- Leadership experience in the legal and/or public sector, with a proven ability to develop and meet strategic priorities, develop and support high-performing teams, and build effective working relationships with key stakeholders.
- Substantial practising or senior operational experience working within a complex legal environment, with a thorough knowledge of the Victorian Justice system.
- Demonstrated skills in service design and delivery, including client-first approaches, client engagement, analysing and interpreting data, reporting, and budgeting.
- High-level interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to support and manage specialist counsel, effectively engage with people across all levels of an organisation, and provide high-level advice (oral and written) on organisational and policy issues.
- Demonstrated management experience with sound knowledge of finance processes and experience adhering to strict budgets.
