Job Description:

As a dedicated professional, you will play a key role in enforcing environmental legislation and promoting responsible waste disposal practices within our community. This exciting opportunity will see you working closely with residents and stakeholders to educate and support them in understanding and adhering to environmental laws.

The successful candidate will have experience in investigation and problem-solving, with strong written and verbal communication skills. They will also be able to drive a vehicle and possess a current driver's license.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enforce the Environment Protection Act 2017 and other relevant legislation to ensure compliance with Council's regulatory responsibilities.
  • Educate and support the community in understanding and adhering to environmental laws and responsible waste disposal practices.
  • Conduct investigations, compile evidence, prepare legal documentation, and represent Council in court when required.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with internal teams, community groups, businesses, and external agencies to support litter management initiatives.
  • Perform on-ground tasks including waste collection and use of Council vehicles to carry out enforcement activities.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Experience in a local government enforcement position is preferred, including an understanding of the Environment Protection Act.
  • Strong investigation and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to drive a vehicle and possess a current driver's license.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks, including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check, and Functional Assessment (Medical/physio).
