
Aboriginal Palliative Care Coordinator

The position of Culturally Sensitive Palliative Care Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of respectful and culturally appropriate end-of-life and palliative care for Aboriginal people. This specialist will act as a conduit for Aboriginal patients with palliative care needs in both hospital and community settings, working collaboratively with clinicians, community-based service providers, and patient families at the primary healthcare level.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the development and implementation of culturally safe policies and procedures to ensure high-quality care for Aboriginal patients.
- Building and maintaining relationships with local Aboriginal communities and stakeholders to foster trust and cooperation.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to create culturally sensitive environments that meet the unique needs of Aboriginal patients and their families.
Requirements include:
- Identification as being Aboriginal and accepted in the community as such.
- Understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal people in relation to grief and loss and Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing.
- Capacity to lead the development of culturally safe environments for Aboriginal patients and their families within a multidisciplinary team.
- Holds a current NSW Driver's Licence (P1 and P2 acceptable).
