Substation Protection & Control Engineer Role

We are seeking an experienced Substation Protection & Control (P&C) Engineer to join our team in the Power Delivery Substation Department. This is a challenging role that requires working individually within a team to complete complex and technically demanding aspects of electrical utility substation design.

  • The successful candidate will have experience in designing medium to extra high voltage utility substations, including one-line diagrams, P&C equipment selection, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, material lists, conduit and cable sizing/routing, AC and DC systems calculations and sizing, and engineering documentation such as Requests for Information (RFIs), Scope Documents, Equipment Specifications, Protection and Control Descriptions, and Construction Specifications.
  • They will also be responsible for working with CAD designers/drafters to develop drawing packages, coordinating designs with other disciplines such as Substation Physical, Structural, and Civil, participating in quality assurance and quality control programs, contributing to engineering proposal development, and contributing to engineering project scheduling and budget management.
Requirements
  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) from an accredited university preferably with a power option.
  • Understanding of substation equipment and its function.
  • Good command of the Microsoft Office suite, with an emphasis on Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.
  • Candidate must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Three (3) or more years' experience in utility substation design.
  • Ability to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, client examples, vendor drawings, and such.
  • Engineer Intern (EI) certificate or passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
