The Challenge
The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Program Director will spearhead the development and implementation of a robust HSE strategic plan, driving best practice and progressive leadership throughout the organisation.
This transformative role requires a visionary leader who can influence key stakeholders, champion HSE initiatives, and cultivate a culture of safety and wellbeing. Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic Leadership: Collaborating with senior leadership teams to develop and execute a comprehensive HSE strategy that delivers exceptional results and fosters a proactive safety culture.
- Safety Culture Transformation: Designing and embedding a safety-first culture that prioritises collaboration, leveraging expert guidance to support senior leaders in implementing learning and awareness programs that promote and embed safety practices.
- Safety Management Systems: Refining and enhancing robust safety management systems that ensure employee wellbeing, drive business objectives, and meet statutory compliance requirements.
- Risk & Compliance: Providing authoritative advice on safety challenges, risk management, and injury prevention while ensuring adherence to all regulatory obligations.
- Coaching & Mentoring: Supporting leaders in enhancing their safety leadership capabilities and practices to drive improvements in safety cultural maturity.
- Change Management: Collaborating to deliver a practical roadmap for change, providing the necessary support to embed new ways of working effectively.
- Incident Management: Managing incidents and serving as the primary interface with regulatory authorities and internal/external legal practitioners when required.
- Performance & Reporting: Measuring performance against organisational objectives and national data to proactively pursue strategies that improve performance and prevent incidents.
To Thrive in This Role
You will leverage strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills to drive transformation, foster innovation, and develop health, safety, and sustainability strategies that create value for all.
To succeed, you will demonstrate:
- Tertiary qualifications and certificates in Health, Safety, and Environment-related disciplines.
- A minimum of 15 years' experience leading health, safety, and wellbeing functions for complex enterprises and ideally listed organisations.
- Experience presenting, engaging, and building constructive relationships with diverse audiences, from operations to Board and Executive level.
- Extensive knowledge of contemporary safety concepts, theories, and business enablers, with the ability to bring a lens of what good looks like.
- Strong business transformation experience and a track record of implementing HSE systems, practices, and projects with excellent business adoption.
- Experience in Transport, Logistics/Warehousing or related heavy industry.
- A comprehensive understanding of the HSW legislative frameworks across all jurisdictions.
