The SKA Observatory, a cutting-edge radio astronomy facility, is seeking an experienced Low Frequency HVAC Specialist.

This role will be responsible for the reliable operation of sophisticated cooling systems across the telescope site. The specialist will diagnose and repair faults, provide expert technical guidance, and perform routine maintenance to maximise system reliability and uptime.

A key part of this role will involve collaborating with internal teams and contractors to ensure minimal disruption to operations. The successful candidate will work on a FIFO 8-days on 6-days off roster, based in Geraldton, Western Australia.

To be considered for this position, applicants must have a current Australian Refrigeration Mechanic Trade qualification, solid foundation in mechanical and HVAC systems, and relevant licenses such as Arctick Refrigerant Handling Licence and High-Risk Work Licences for Working at Heights and Confined Space Entry.

In addition to these qualifications, strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as well as experience using standard software tools for record-keeping and updates.

Responsibilities:
  • Investigate and resolve system faults, alarms, and incidents swiftly
  • Provide expert technical guidance on fault diagnostics, system reliability, and performance improvement opportunities
  • Perform routine and corrective maintenance on site infrastructure
  • Respond promptly to system failures and malfunctions
  • Plan and execute system upgrades, installations, and modifications
Requirements:
