About the Role

As a Laboratory Technical Specialist, you will be responsible for the technical administration and operations of teaching laboratories in the Clinical and Health Sciences Academic Unit at the University of South Australia. You will provide expert technical support to students, academic staff, and external users, ensuring best practices are maintained to support the unit's teaching and research activities.

The role is critical in providing a safe and effective learning environment, where students can develop their skills and knowledge in a laboratory setting. Your expertise will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratories, including maintenance, repairs, and equipment calibration.

In this role, you will work closely with the Team Leader: Chemistry to ensure that the laboratories are well-maintained and meet the needs of students and academic staff. You will also be responsible for developing and implementing quality systems to ensure the highest standards of laboratory safety and compliance.

About the Salary

The salary range for this role is approximately $85,000 - $115,000 per annum, depending on your level of experience and qualifications. We offer a comprehensive remuneration package, including superannuation contributions, annual leave, and other benefits.

About the Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a tertiary qualification in a relevant field or extensive knowledge and experience in coordinating, operating, and maintaining teaching and research laboratories. You will also need to possess strong organisational skills, initiative, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Specifically, you will require:
• Tertiary qualification in a relevant field or extensive knowledge and experience in coordinating, operating, and maintaining teaching and research laboratories
• Demonstrated high-level organisational skills and initiative, including experience in work planning, research, analytical skills, and prioritising to meet deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at varying professional and academic levels, from diverse cultural backgrounds
• Demonstrated knowledge of WHS legislation and risk assessment strategies within a teaching and research laboratory, and experience in undertaking WHS inspections and risk assessments, identifying risk, and providing advice on corrective actions
• High-level written and oral communication skills, with knowledge and experience in developing and maintaining quality systems, reports, documents, and participating in continuous business and safety improvement processes
