Senior Ecologist Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Ecologist to join our team of professionals who share a passion for environmental conservation and management.

  • The successful candidate will have tertiary qualifications in environmental science, botany, zoology or similar fields, as well as at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Accreditation or experience under the SA Native Vegetation Act 1991 is highly desirable, as is terrestrial flora and/or fauna survey experience, including planning surveys and coordinating field teams.
  • Strong project management skills, particularly in managing medium and large-scale development and/or biodiversity projects, are essential.
  • Effective communication skills, including report writing, are also critical, as is the ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Collection and interpretation of ecological and spatial data are key aspects of this role, as is the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities:

Job Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading terrestrial flora and/or fauna surveys, including planning and coordinating field teams;
  • Managing medium and large-scale development and/or biodiversity projects, including project planning and coordination;
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, including clients and colleagues;
  • Collecting and interpreting ecological and spatial data, including using geographic information systems (GIS) and other tools;
  • Writing reports and other documentation to communicate findings and recommendations.
Requirements:

Skills and Qualifications: To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, botany, zoology or similar fields;
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in project management and ecology;
  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting, time management and risk assessment;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including report writing and presentation;
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, including remote teams.
