We are seeking an experienced Senior Research Officer to join our team at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research. As a key member of our Chemical Biology Division, you will play a critical role in driving our drug discovery efforts and advancing novel therapeutics.
Key Responsibilities- Lead medicinal chemistry efforts on drug discovery projects, optimizing compounds and contributing to achieving key program milestones.
- Drive programs along discovery and development milestones using a range of platform technology and external resources.
- Work with our medicinal chemistry team, Contract Research Organisations, and oversee the synthesis of compounds.
- Interpret data and contribute to decision making on next steps for the project.
- Report on progress of the medicinal chemistry team.
- Collaborate with and mentor colleagues with diverse technical backgrounds.
- PhD in organic chemistry, chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, or a related discipline.
- Experience in drug discovery and/or medicinal chemistry, including interpreting DMPK data.
- Demonstrated ability to apply sound medicinal chemistry principles in optimisation of lead compounds.
- High level of expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and synthetic route design.
- Clear understanding of structural determination using NMR and MS techniques and various purification methods.
- Outstanding academic or industrial track record, including peer-reviewed publications and/or patents.
- Proven organisational skills and accurate record keeping.
- Demonstration of good lab practices, with particular attention to safety.
- Prior experience in utilising structure-based drug design approaches, including relevant software suites.
- Prior experience in integrating chemo-informatics into the design of lead series.
- Ability to grasp background biology and its impact on project.
This is a full-time position available for 18 months. Salary is Research Employee (RE) Level B ($114,170-135,568). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
