Australian Energy Market Operator is seeking a skilled Principal Advisor to join its Government Engagement team. The role offers a competitive salary of $120,000 - $160,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.

About the Role

This 6-month contract position is based in either Canberra or Sydney, with regular travel required. As a member of AEMO's Government Engagement team, you will work closely with colleagues to facilitate extensive engagement with government across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the execution of government engagement strategic objectives.
  • Establish and build relationships of trust and credibility with governments.
  • Assist in preparing, organising, and reviewing papers, briefings, policies, and reports.
  • Monitor and report on emerging government issues; manage government-related events, issues, and briefings; and be the point of contact for government.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • Demonstrated experience in government relations within Australia, particularly in complex environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Australia's electricity and gas sectors.
  • A detailed understanding of the machinery of government, including senior Departmental and Ministerial office level experience.
  • Established networks and reputation with governments, preferably at the Federal level.
  • Tertiary qualifications in business, policy, commerce, economics, law, or a related discipline, or significant equivalent experience.
