Leadership Opportunity in Remote Healthcare

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Medical Officer to lead the clinical operations of a remote community medical facility in Papua New Guinea.

This leadership role involves direct patient care, medical oversight, coordination of referrals and evacuations, and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality healthcare aligned with global and local health frameworks.

  • Represent Medical Services with external stakeholders and community members.
  • Provide Clinical and Strategic leadership to the Medical Services team.
  • Supervise a team of Medical Doctors, Intensive Care Paramedic and Heads of Department to ensure compliance with evidenced base guidelines and standards.
  • Undertake clinical responsibilities in the hospital by being actively involved in patient care.
  • Coordinate Medical Emergencies, Medical Referrals and Medical Evacuations according to Standard Operating procedures.
  • Provide written reports and returns in accordance with clients' needs.

Essential Criteria:

  • Medical degree and current, unrestricted license to practise.
  • Minimum ten years of experience in trauma/emergency, occupational health, family medicine and leadership or management roles.
  • Leadership experience in a medical setting, including remote or resource-limited environments.
  • Ability to work under pressure and provide clinical guidance in complex cases.
  • Current CPR/BLS and ALS/ITLS certifications and willingness to obtain PNG medical registration.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous or current PNG Medical Board Registration.
  • Experience in Obstetrics, tropical medicine, aeromedical evacuations, or anaesthetics.
