Senior Environmental Impact Officer

SA Water is seeking a dedicated Senior Environmental Impact Assessment Officer to provide leadership and expertise in environmental impact assessments across the Asset Lifecycle. This role will ensure compliance with environmental, heritage, and development approvals, delivering sustainable outcomes that meet customer expectations.
About the Person
We are looking for a passionate and experienced environmental professional with a strong background in environmental impact assessments and regulatory compliance. You will have proven expertise in managing environmental, heritage, and development approvals, along with a talent for providing strategic advice and building strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
About the Team
The Science and Strategy group employs scientific approaches to address present and upcoming challenges. They execute a strategy driven by customer preferences to elevate the SA Water brand and position us for future success.
Key Responsibilities
You will provide expert advice on environmental and heritage impact assessments to ensure SA Water's capital delivery program meets regulatory compliance and achieves world-class standards. You will also identify, facilitate, and manage environmental, heritage, and development approvals to prevent avoidable delays and costs to projects. Additionally, you will receive and monitor environment assessments, track emerging pollutants, and share knowledge with the business to support informed decision making.
Requirements
Tertiary qualifications in a science or environment discipline or equivalent experience are required. You will also need experience in undertaking environmental impact assessments and demonstrated experience in environmental auditing and inspections. Knowledge of Commonwealth and State planning, environmental and heritage legislation relevant to environmental impact assessment is also essential. Skills in collaboration, communication, negotiation, and influencing are required, as well as experience in contract management and working with contractors to achieve outcomes. Knowledge of Environmental Management Systems and understanding of environmental sustainability approaches are desirable, as is a demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal Heritage issues associated with delivering infrastructure projects and sound understanding of potential environmental impacts relating to SA Water's activities.
