About the Project

This fully funded PhD position is based at Monash University's Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, where you will work on a project titled 'Microbial Mining of REEs.' Your research will involve laboratory work, including microbial culturing and recombinant DNA techniques such as cloning, transformation, and plasmid construction.

The project aims to address the environmental challenges of traditional mining methods for REEs. Conventional mining methods are energy-intensive and raise significant environmental concerns. By leveraging the natural abilities of microbes to extract and recover REEs, this research seeks to develop sustainable alternatives that reduce the industry's ecological footprint.

About You

We are looking for an ideal candidate with a strong academic background in chemical or biological engineering, microbiology, or a related discipline. Practical experience in microbial culturing and hands-on skills in recombinant DNA techniques are preferred. Demonstrated self-motivation and the ability to conduct independent research are essential. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills are also required.

A keen interest in sustainable resource management, biotechnology, and interdisciplinary research is essential. A proactive mindset and the ability to work both independently and as part of a diverse team are crucial for success in this role.
