Job OverviewDeputy Chief Engineer – Electrical (LV & ELV)

QinetiQ is seeking a Deputy Chief Engineer (Electrical) with proven expertise in Low Voltage (LV) and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) design to develop and sustain a world-class engineering capability.

As a Deputy Chief Engineer, you will lead technical assurance, mentor engineers, and ensure products and solutions meet safety, compliance, and customer value standards.

  • Provide technical leadership and assurance in electrical engineering, focusing on LV/ELV design and product development.
  • Review, approve, and certify designs according to engineering standards, safety regulations, and certification requirements.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, guiding them on design standards, regulatory compliance, and best practices.
  • Contribute to the management and continuous improvement of the Technical Management System (TMS) and Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Oversee projects involving PLC and FPGA-controlled systems, LV control systems, and equipment operation.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or similar, with the ability to achieve Chartered Engineer status and local registration.
  • Significant experience in LV/ELV design and product development.
  • Strong technical leadership skills, with prior experience in people management and mentoring.
  • Knowledge of control systems, including PLCs and FPGAs, and experience in certification review.
  • Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Preferred Skills

Candidates should have experience across industries, including rail, utilities, mining, defence, aviation, or aerospace. Knowledge or experience in avionics systems would be an advantage but not essential.

Candidates must be eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance.
