We are partnering with a Professional Services Organisation in the search for a Team Leader for their Legal Investigations department. This role is a critical part of ensuring the highest standards of conduct among solicitors in NSW. The Investigations Team is responsible for carrying out the investigation of complaints about the conduct of lawyers and suitability issues pursuant to Chapters 3 and 5 of the Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW) (Uniform Law).

The Team Leader is responsible for the supervision of a small legal team charged with the investigation and resolution of complaints about solicitors under the Uniform Law including the review of reports to the Council of NSW and to the Professional Conduct Committee.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading a team of investigators as it manages and resolves complaints under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW), including advising and assisting team members on the management of individual matters, managing overall team and individual practice resources, reviewing and monitoring team functions and responsibilities including performance appraisals of team members, and active case and practice management.
  • Expeditious analysis and investigation of complaints against solicitors including drafting relevant notices and reports.
  • Examination, investigation, research, report and make recommendations on complaints and other matters impacting on solicitors.
  • Liaison with complainants, solicitors, Professional Conduct Committee, Council, Legal Services Commissioner and other staff.
  • Active involvement in the Department including legislative and legal development.

Requirements:

  • Legal Qualifications with extensive relevant legal experience.
  • Admission as a lawyer and holding or eligible to hold a practising certificate.
  • Supervisory experience will be highly regarded.
