Disability Specialist Position

This role focuses on supporting the needs of young Aboriginal people with disabilities and developing wider workforce capability to achieve this goal. Collaborative relationships will be built across government and community sectors.

Key responsibilities include:

  • ">
  • Respond to referrals by providing secondary consultation on specific situations for young Aboriginal people with disabilities.">
  • Provide expert advice to staff on how to support the well-being and developmental needs of children and young people with disabilities.">
  • Support staff in using effective approaches to address the responsivity needs of children and young people.">
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of forensic disability and its interface with NDIS, forensic disability services, and the broader service system.">
  • Facilitate disability-specific training to staff and contribute to Communities of Practice (CoPs) or events.">
  • Utilize disability-specific knowledge to facilitate brokerage assessments as required to support access to appropriate services and supports.">

Additionally, data collection and maintenance on children and young people with disabilities engaged with Youth Justice will be essential. Establishing collaborative relationships and partnerships between the Youth Justice community and disability services will also be key to this role.

The successful candidate will have expertise in providing support and advice to Aboriginal young people with disabilities and experience in facilitating disability-specific training. They will also possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
