About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and qualified Health and Physical Education teacher to join our team in the ACT Government. As a Health and Physical Education teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality education to students in a range of secondary settings, including years 7 to 10 high schools, larger preschool to year 10 schools, and colleges teaching years 11 and 12.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality Health and Physical Education programs to students in a range of secondary settings.
  • Develop and implement engaging and inclusive lesson plans that cater to diverse student needs.
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback to students and parents.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement school-wide initiatives and programs.
  • Contribute to the development of a positive and inclusive school culture.
Requirements
  • Relevant and recognised tertiary qualifications in Health and Physical Education.
  • Passion for teaching and education, with a student-centred approach to learning.
  • Subject expertise and ability to teach across a broad age and ability range.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and successful application of the Australian Curriculum and outcomes-based learning.
  • Positive classroom management skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Proven experience establishing and fostering relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers.
  • Commitment to supporting the wellbeing of students.

How to Apply

To be eligible to be employed as a teacher in an ACT public school, you must have:

  • Education qualifications – A four-year full-time tertiary education qualification. Applicants with qualifications gained outside of Australia should complete a skills assessment by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) to confirm qualification requirements and English language proficiency to teach in Australian schools.
  • Teacher registration – A valid approval to teach with the ACT Teacher Quality Institute (TQI). If you do not hold a teacher registration with the ACT TQI, we suggest starting your registration at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
  • Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration – A valid ACT WWVP. If you don't, we suggest starting your registration at the same time.
  • Approved working status – Be an Australian citizen and/or be permanent resident and/or hold a valid working visa. Business sponsorship is available and assessed on an individual basis.
