About Our Service
  • The Medicare Mental Health Services are free and you do not need an appointment, referral or Medicare card to visit a Medicare Mental Health Centre.
  • The new services in Devonport, Burnie and Outer Hobart are co-funded by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments, to provide a streamlined approach to support better mental health and social wellbeing across the country.

The service is tailored to the needs of the community in Tasmania and provides a combination of peer-led recovery and clinical support.

What We Offer

The Medicare Mental Health Centre provides a safe, welcoming and supportive environment for people experiencing psychological distress, allowing them to:

  1. Identify alternatives to presenting to the Emergency Department
  2. Access support from trained mental health professionals within their community

Role Overview

This role acts as the central point of communication and provides a superior level of secretarial and reception services to people 18+, and support clinical and management staff.

  1. Medical Reception duties including taking incoming calls and directing the caller to the appropriate member of staff
  2. Appointment scheduling and maintenance of clients
  3. General Office duties including opening and distribution of mail, typing, scanning, filing and archiving
  4. Assist in the closing and securing of the building at the end of the day
  5. General housekeeping to ensure a clean and safe environment for staff and clients

Requirements:

  • Excellent administration, time management, and organisational skills with attention to detail
  • Well-developed customer service skills
  • Knowledge of the mental health/not-for-profit sector with an ability to liaise with people from all backgrounds, government, non-government organisations, and community organisations
  • Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, problem solving and organisational skills
  • Proven record in working closely with and being a successful member of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Previous Medical Reception experience would be highly advantageous
  • Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office and CRM applications would be highly advantageous
  • The ability to learn a new medical software program would be an advantage
  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a WWCC
  • Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
  • A current unencumbered driver's license
