Staff Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Specialist to join our laboratory team in diagnostic Haematology services.
The successful applicant will conduct diagnostic review meetings, participate in academic activities, and provide consultation services in General Haematology, Transfusion and other subspecialties of Haematology as required.
Recent experience in flow cytometry and haemostasis is desirable.
The role involves participating in the weekly roster to cover daily reporting tasks, as well as after-hours on call roster. Our laboratory provides state-wide services including flow cytometry, cytogenetics, specialised haemostasis, molecular diagnostics and cytogenetics.
- Participate in the laboratory in the diagnostic Haematology services.
- Conduct diagnostic review meetings and participate in academic activities.
- Provide consultation services in General Haematology, Transfusion and Coagulation and other subspecialties of Haematology as required.
- Represent the specialty on hospital and other relevant statewide committees.
- Provide consultation and coordination and other services as required for management of haemophilia and other coagulation disorders in Tasmania.
In addition to clinical duties, the Staff Specialist will be involved in teaching, quality improvement and research activities.
Key responsibilities include undergraduate teaching, supervision and training of postgraduate specialist trainees, workplace teaching to Pathology staff and postgraduate teaching to other groups of hospital staff.
Quality improvement and research activities involve regular participation in Quality meetings, identification and implementation of Improvement activities, maintenance of involvement in research activities and supervision of research students.
Administration tasks include providing administrative and supervisory functions to the unit as required, working collaboratively with laboratory staff and other health professionals and actively participating in the organisation's Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes.
