The Environmental Engineer will engage with various permits on a daily basis, ensuring timely delivery of environmental approvals and amendments for operational assets. Your role will involve interpreting and implementing environmental regulations, preparing new and revised environmental authorities, and ensuring compliance with those regulations. A key aspect of this position is identifying and proposing solutions to optimize the environmental permitting and management processes.

Position: Environmental Engineer - Approvals Specialist

Location: Brisbane

Contract Duration: 24 months

What We Need from You:

Your ability to foster collaborative relationships with stakeholders will be essential. You will motivate others to implement changes that positively impact our organizational success. Additionally, you will possess:

Education and Experience:

  • A degree in environmental science, planning, or law (essential).
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Environmental Statutory approvals within the resources sector.

Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with State and Federal environmental legislation and policies, alongside a comprehensive understanding of international standards related to impact assessments.
  • Experience with QLD's Environmental Protection Act 1994, Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004, and Nature Conservation Act 1992, specifically regarding approvals and permits for coal seam gas (CSG) operations in Queensland.

Key Deliverables and Responsibilities:

1. Supporting the Delivery of Environmental Regulatory Approvals and Permits:

  • Conducting environmental reviews, preparing operational plans, and calculating estimated rehabilitation costs.
  • Advocating for favorable environmental legislation, policy, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Keeping the organization informed of any changes to relevant environmental regulations, legislation, policies, and guidelines.

2. Supporting Compliance and Approvals Continuous Improvement:

  • Identifying, recommending, and implementing efficiencies (both cost and time) in the management of regulatory approvals.

3. Assisting in Providing Support and Advice to Stakeholders:

  • Promoting environmental awareness and compliance throughout the organization to ensure understanding of all regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborating with industry peers to share best practices and address common challenges.
