Database Operations Manager


Job Summary

Seeking a seasoned Database Operations Manager to lead database administration teams in large-scale enterprise environments. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in database administration and operations, with a proactive mindset towards risk management, service reliability, and team development.


Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the availability, integrity, and performance of critical enterprise database platforms across cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Lead day-to-day operations of database services in alignment with enterprise architecture, security, and risk management frameworks.
  • Oversee database lifecycle management including provisioning, patching, upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery.
  • Contribute to data platform roadmaps, ensuring alignment with business growth, regulatory requirements, and technology innovation.
  • Monitor systems proactively, respond to incidents, and manage problems to minimise service disruptions.
  • Identify automation opportunities and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee team operations including financial management, compliance, and documentation.
  • Manage backlog prioritisation to ensure alignment with business objectives and technical dependencies.

About You

Candidates should have strong leadership skills, excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence across technical and business domains.


Requirements
  • Proven experience leading database administration teams or data platform teams in large-scale enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of relational and cloud-native database technologies (e.g. SQL Server).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage operational risk, compliance, and performance including the application of operational and risk frameworks.
  • Well-developed organisational skills for task prioritisation and collaboration.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and mentor multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technology-related field (preferred), with ITIL, Agile or similar certifications.
  • Experience in financial services, particularly superannuation (desirable).
