About the Role
Opportunity OverviewA highly skilled Senior Joint Venture Accountant is sought to join the Santos team at our Brisbane offices. Reporting to the Financial Controller - Development and Joint Ventures, this position ensures accurate reporting of the Cooper Basin joint venture financial performance, including providing insightful analysis into key business decisions and managing compliance obligations under joint operating agreements. The role acts as the main liaison between Asset teams, Group Finance, and Financial Services.
Key accountabilities align with the Santos company values. Primary responsibilities include:
- Partnering with operational teams to lead the preparation of joint venture budgets, forecasts, management reports, commentary, and analysis.
- Critically reviewing and challenging financial information and analysis.
- Coordinating all joint venture audit matters, including coordination of auditors, provision of data requested, and preparation of responses to queries.
- Providing proactive support to the Financial Controller and Finance Manager through the preparation of required presentations and attendance of joint venture Financial and Management meetings.
- Engaging effectively and collaboratively with internal/external stakeholders. Researching and coordinating responses to finance-related queries from external joint venture partners.
- Reviewing and distributing monthly financial statements and cash calls.
- Critically reviewing AFE submissions against joint venture budgets.
- Leading projects to support improvement in reporting systems and information flows.
- Mentoring junior team members.
The ideal candidate will possess significant accounting experience, preferably in the resource industry, along with a sound knowledge of accounting standards, financial reporting requirements, and Joint Ventures Accounting. Holding an Accounting, Commerce, or similar Tertiary Degree, as well as having completed a professional Accounting qualification (CA, CPA, or equivalent), is essential. Proficiency in SAP and MS office products, as well as bulk data analysis, is also expected.
