We are currently seeking a professional Investigations Solicitor to join our Legal Regulation team.
Job DescriptionThe role involves conducting investigations of complaints about lawyers' conduct and suitability issues under Chapters 3 and 5 of the Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW). The successful candidate will ensure fairness and impartiality in accordance with the Uniform Law.
The Investigations Team is responsible for investigating complaints about lawyers' conduct and suitability issues. This includes examining evidence, drafting statutory notices, conducting legal research, and preparing reports with recommendations for the Professional Conduct Committee.
The selected candidate will also be responsible for managing complex cases, including complaints, suitability issues, and trust investigations. They will identify key conduct issues, critically analyse evidence, and determine additional evidence requirements.
- Main Responsibilities:
- Conduct investigations of complaints about lawyers expeditiously under Chapter 5.
- Examine suitability issues related to a lawyer's fitness to hold a practising certificate under Chapter 3 of the Uniform Law.
- Review and analyse trust investigation reports and make considered recommendations.
- Manage a variety of complex cases.
- Identify key conduct issues and critically analyse evidence.
- Examine evidence and draft statutory notices.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements under the Uniform Law.
- Admitted to the Roll of Lawyers and holding or eligible for a practising certificate.
- At least 3 years of post-qualification experience.
- Experience in investigations, regulation, or administrative law is desirable.
- Knowledge of the Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW) and related legislation.
- Understanding of solicitor's trust accounting practices.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing.
- Strong planning and organisational skills.
- Effective presentation and structuring of information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant computer applications.
- Honest, trustworthy, and fair in dealings.
