The position of a Medical Practitioner offers the chance to apply medical expertise in a challenging environment. As a key member of a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver comprehensive primary healthcare services to inmates within a correctional facility.
Detailed Responsibilities- Provide high-quality care and conduct skilled health assessments, diagnosis, and treatment services for patients.
- Refer inmates to external providers when necessary, reviewing progress and outcomes promptly.
- Treat and prevent communicable and chronic diseases, educating patients on healthy lifestyle choices.
- Supervise Nurse Practitioners and contribute to their clinical development, supporting patient reintegration into the community.
- Ensure continuity of care for a diverse custodial population, collaborating with correctional staff to deliver integrated care.
- Unconditional registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA is mandatory.
- A minimum of 2+ years of post-graduate general practitioner experience is required.
- Fellowship or recognition by a relevant college or vocational registration is necessary.
- Current HLTAD009 CPR certification is a must.
- Experience in general practice, mental health, drug & alcohol, emergency care, or women's health is beneficial.
- Ability to diagnose and treat effectively, with effective communication skills (oral and written), cultural awareness, and ability to work with diverse populations.
