Staff Specialist in Anatomical Pathology

The position is a full-time or part-time opportunity to work as a Staff Specialist in the Anatomical Pathology department of a major hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for participating in the delivery of high-quality pathological services, conducting tissue review meetings, and undertaking undergraduate teaching of medical students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in anatomical pathology services provided by the department at the hospital.
  • Conduct tissue review meetings with other specialists to discuss patient cases and provide recommendations for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Undertake undergraduate teaching of medical students at the University of Tasmania, providing hands-on experience and guidance in the field of anatomical pathology.
  • Provide supervision and training to postgraduate specialist trainees in anatomical pathology, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to become competent specialists.
  • Maintain involvement in research activities, including supervision of research students, to advance the field of anatomical pathology and improve patient outcomes.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of services provided to patients, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as needed.
  • Provide administrative functions to the unit as required, supporting the efficient operation of the department.
  • Work collaboratively with scientific staff and other health professionals to achieve shared goals and objectives.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to the organization's Quality & Safety and Work Health and Safety processes, including in the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives, safeguarding practices for vulnerable people, and related training.

Requirements:

  • Holds specialist registration; or
  • Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway
  • Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.

Working Arrangements:

  • Fixed term, part-time day work (with on-call), working 38 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible until February 2026.
