Are you passionate about fish health and looking for a challenging role in a dynamic team? At Huon Aquaculture Company Pty Ltd, we are seeking a skilled Fish Health Specialist to join our Fish Health department.

About the Role

  • Undertake sampling, health checks, and investigations at our marine or hatchery sites.
  • Coordinate the operation of hatcheries to promote fish health, taking into account environmental and market factors.
  • Enforce animal welfare and biosecurity compliance within our operational teams.
  • Stay up-to-date on salmon industry best practices.
  • Work with research bodies to assist with data collection, analysis, and conclusive reporting of results for collaborative fish health projects.
  • Maintain, monitor, and evaluate records of farming activities and plan production accordingly.
  • Select, train, and supervise staff and contractors when required to raise awareness of the VHP.
  • Ensure laboratories and fish health workstations are clean and well-stocked, actively promoting best husbandry practices, assisting with gill checking activities as required, and ensuring administrative tasks are completed.

This role operates on a 7 days on, 7 days off roster and offers a minimum annual salary of $70,000 + super. Located primarily at Huon's Southern site, there will be regular travel to other Marine and Freshwater sites across Tasmania.

  • You have adept communication skills and can build meaningful relationships.
  • You have experience in collecting and analyzing data, communicating results in a clear and concise manner.
  • You are willing to help out other teams with operational or administrative tasks when required.
  • You contribute positively to a productive and friendly team environment.
  • You're self-motivated with a track record of contributing to continuous improvement of systems and procedures.
  • You're experienced and competent in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • You have a strong understanding of fish biology, water chemistry, and marine and freshwater production cycles.
  • A coxswain's or experience on boats is desirable.
  • A current and valid driver's license.
  • Bonus points if you're already across Huon's visions and values.
