Job Title: Deputy Principal Solicitor">

Based in Toowoomba, the Deputy Principal Solicitor plays a pivotal role in supporting the Legal Practice Director in day-to-day supervision and operation of our legal team. This involves providing expert advice and casework services across a diverse range of funded programs, including generalist legal services, elder law, tenancy advice, and health justice partnerships.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to provide high-quality legal advice and lead complex casework. They will also have the capacity to mentor and supervise staff solicitors and volunteers, utilizing active matters as learning opportunities.

Key responsibilities include overseeing team operations, including casework approval, advice checking, KPI, and workload management, ensuring regional coverage, managing program delivery, and funder reporting. The successful candidate will also assume Nominated Person responsibilities and higher duties when necessary.

A strong emphasis is placed on promoting compliance, managing legal risk, and developing a positive team culture. The Deputy Principal Solicitor will also represent the organization at stakeholder forums, legal partnerships, and networks, leading and overseeing law reform and community legal engagement activities that align with our vision, mission, and values.

We are seeking an individual who can consider their work through the lens of client impact, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a positive, adaptable, and collaborative leadership style.

The successful candidate will be eligible to hold an unrestricted Practising Certificate and have relevant post-admission experience, including leading complex casework (preferably 5+ years). They will also demonstrate current eligibility for Blue and Yellow Cards (mandatory criminal history screening) and have experience supervising, mentoring, and developing legal staff and volunteers.

Other requirements include professionalism, adaptability, and empathy, with the ability to lead by example and contribute to a trauma-informed, culturally safe, and inclusive workplace.
