Role Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Peer Practitioner. In this role, you will be responsible for supervising and supporting Peer Support Workers to provide authentic and meaningful support to individuals on their recovery journeys. You will also assist in the growth and development of the Lived Experience Workforce program, working in partnership with staff, supervisors, and managers to engage consumers and carers accessing our mental health services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and practice supervision to Peer Support Workers, drawing upon your expertise in trauma-informed, strengths-based, and recovery-oriented models of service.
  • Assist in the recruitment, orientation, mentoring, and professional development of Peer Support Workers.
  • Model and promote a high standard of peer work values and principles of practice within our mental health services.
  • Participate in the planning, development, and review processes of the Lived Experience Workforce program.
  • Support consumer engagement processes and participate in service development and quality improvement from the Lived Experience perspective.
  • Assist mental health services staff in their work with consumers, providing input into case management and advice on connecting with relevant consumer and carer supports.
Requirements
  • Experience working in a designated Peer Support Worker role with people with multiple and complex psychosocial needs.
  • Experience in providing leadership, coaching, and support to staff.
  • Advanced knowledge of best practices in peer support work and peer supervision frameworks.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with a team-oriented approach, skills in problem-solving, conflict resolution, and working with people experiencing crisis.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively represent lived experience perspectives in service development and systems advocacy.
  • Experience producing quality improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Certificate IV Mental Health Peer Work (or working toward completion), or a Degree or Diploma qualification in Human Services or a related discipline, and/or equivalent experience in a similar role.
