Key Role

The core objective of this position is to contribute to the achievement of organisational goals relative to profitability, growth, customer service and relations.

  • Achieve new business targets for assigned portfolio to support the attainment of revenue and profit objectives through various strategies, including:
  • Design and implementation of effective risk management strategies
  • Collaboration with internal stakeholders on portfolio management strategy and provision of feedback to enhance performance
  • Monitoring/reporting on status of open claims for assigned accounts and make recommendations
  • Preparation for account reviews with senior management, demonstrating knowledge of risk, industry trends and company products and capabilities
Underwriting Excellence & Compliance
  • Adhere to underwriting, compliance and file documentation standards to support the attainment of organisational revenue and profit goals
  • Within scope of delegated authority, evaluate and accept or decline new lines, renewals and endorsements
  • Evaluate and recommend acceptance or declination on risks exceeding authority
  • Recommend account trade-off decisions
  • Provide input to Senior Manager on profit analysis, premium planning, market analysis and environmental considerations
Sales & Marketing Broker and Key Account Management
  • Achieve individual sales targets as specified in goals/business plan
  • Develop and/or implement an effective business development strategy to prospect for new business across product lines and broker segments. This includes collaboration with key internal stakeholders to maximise sales and marketing outcomes
  • Manage sales pipeline to identify and develop new business prospects
Broker and Key Account Management Collaboration
  • Manage relationships with assigned producers through proactive communication, visitation and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to retain and grow business
  • Visit assigned producers to discuss risks, communicate company business appetites and produce new business
  • Monitor assigned producers' performance by analysing quality, volume and mix of business by producer and determine degree of conformity to departmental goals; rectify deviations and communicate results to manager
  • Plan and execute a regular quality underwriting travel program to promote understanding of and support for underwriting and marketing goals; solicitation of new business and presentations to prospective producers
Essential Qualifications
  • Demonstrable ability to identify and implement intelligent solutions to unique underwriting situations
  • Appropriate levels of subject matter expertise in pricing techniques, alternative risk transfer and reserve management
  • Working knowledge of key accounts within the organisation
  • Understanding of underwriting appetites of other departments and associated relationships with interdepartmental accounts
  • Judgement, experience and confidence to make recommendations for tailoring coverage and manuscripting policies
  • Familiarity with products/services of key competitors
  • Capacity to utilise negotiation strategies to achieve constructive business outcomes
  • Ability to work well with people and influence decision-making

This role requires a Strata Underwriter who can achieve business targets, design portfolio analysis strategies, monitor open claims, and adhere to underwriting and compliance standards.
