Job Title: Fabrication Workshop Manager

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on fabrication specialist to lead our welding and fabrication operations. In this role, you will oversee a skilled team, maintain quality and safety standards, and ensure projects are delivered on time and to specification.

You will work closely with project managers and engineers while also providing technical guidance and mentoring. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, supervising, and coordinating a team of welders, fabricators, and apprentices
  • Overseeing fabrication jobs from drawings through to completion
  • Creating and managing weld maps, fabrication schedules, and WPS documentation
  • Conducting welder qualification testing and managing weld/material traceability
  • Reviewing drawings and ensuring all work meets quality and specification requirements
  • Liaising with project managers and engineers to coordinate workflow
  • Managing yard and logistics operations to ensure efficient material handling, dispatch, and deliveries
  • Enforcing workplace safety procedures and ensuring compliance with Australian Standards
  • Assisting with NDT requests and reviewing reports for compliance
  • Supporting HR functions including training, mentoring apprentices, and performance management
  • Participating in scheduling and process improvement initiatives
  • Becoming a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in system assembly

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A trade qualification in Fabrication or Boilermaking
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in welding and structural/piping supervision or workshop management
  • AS1796 Certificate 10 Welding Supervisor (preferred) or equivalent IIW qualification
  • Strong trade technical skills in STT (GMAW-S), FCAW, GTAW, and MMAW/SMAW processes
  • Proven ability to read and interpret complex fabrication/engineering drawings
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); CAD/Navisworks advantageous
  • Forklift and/or crane ticket beneficial
