Aboriginal Languages Teacher

This is a 12-month fixed-term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025, with possible extension (12 months) and/or permanency.

The OpportunityAs the original languages of Australia, each language is unique to its own country and connects people with their heritage, culture, and community. Many of these languages are critically endangered, and as a teacher, you will play a vital role in preserving them.
In this role, you will give students access to learn and engage with these languages, support community language revitalization, and help students develop a strong sense of identity, pride, and self-esteem. You will also help to strengthen Aboriginal student wellbeing and engagement, build respect for Aboriginal histories, cultures, people, knowledge, and experiences, and promote a wider understanding of sustainability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement language programs that promote cultural heritage and language revitalization
- Support community language revitalization efforts
- Help students develop a strong sense of identity, pride, and self-esteem
- Strengthen Aboriginal student wellbeing and engagement
- Build respect for Aboriginal histories, cultures, people, knowledge, and experiences
- Hold an eligible teaching qualification
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment
- Apply for a WA Working with Children Check before starting
- Consent to and obtain a National Criminal History Check with the Department's Screening Unit
