
Financial Development Cadet

The City of Canterbury Bankstown is one of the largest councils in New South Wales with culturally, socially and economically diverse communities.
We deliver 28 key services to over 380,000 residents including childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres.
As a Cadet Accountant you will support a range of finance and accounting functions across the council allowing you to gain hands-on experience and develop practical skills in local government finance.
Duties will include:
- Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the council's financial ledgers
- SUPPORTING TREASURY FUNCTIONS CASH MANAGEMENT AND STATUTORY REPORTING
- Preparing the council's annual budget and monthly financial performance reports
- Processing general ledger journals and maintaining asset register data
- ASSISTING WITH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL AUDIT ACTIVITIES
- Providing support across finance areas including Accounts Payable, Receivable, Treasury, Taxation and Rates
- Undertaking other duties as directed by the Team Leader Financial Processes
You will have:
- Completed or be completing tertiary studies in Accounting, Commerce, Business or Finance
- Good attention to detail, accuracy and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and email
- Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
- Motivated and eager to learn, with interest in local government finance
- Work experience or understanding of finance/accounting processes is desirable
The salary for this opportunity starts at $58,494 (T8) + 12% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
