About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Counsellor to join our team at Gateway Health. This role is designed for someone passionate about delivering evidence-based counselling and care coordination to individuals needing AOD support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver professional and confidential counselling to clients experiencing problematic alcohol and/or drug use.
  • Conduct AOD comprehensive assessments and provide client-centred support across various stages of recovery.
  • Equip clients with resources and education on harm minimisation and coping strategies.
  • Employ a flexible, trauma-informed, strength-based approach to counselling.
  • Utilize a diverse range of therapeutic models and techniques, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and more.
  • Work with both general and forensic AOD clients, addressing a range of needs from brief interventions to complex counselling cases.
About You

We're searching for a candidate with a background in counselling, behavioural or social sciences, social work, or psychology, preferably with specific training or experience in the AOD field. You will bring a collaborative, client-centred approach and a strong ability to work effectively with other agencies to deliver quality services.

Must have experience in assessment, a variety of counselling and support approaches and have or being willing to obtain forensic AOD accreditation (as required by DFFH)
