Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Bioinformatics Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Genomics Unit, you will be responsible for providing bioinformatics expertise and support to scientists within the Public Health and Environmental Reference Laboratories (PEHRL).

The successful candidate will have experience with managing genomics-specific laboratory hardware and software, overseeing high-performance computing, and developing/maintaining bioinformatics programs and pipelines.

  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Manage and maintain genomics-specific laboratory hardware and software systems.
    • Oversee high-performance computing, including cloud computing infrastructure.
    • Develop and maintain bioinformatics programs and pipelines in collaboration with PEHRL scientists.
    • Train and assist scientists with integrating next-generation sequencing equipment with high-throughput analysis computing tools.
    • Liaise with Queensland Health IT support staff.
  • Requirements:
    • Postgraduate qualification in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, or Genomics (desirable).
    • Demonstrated knowledge of UNIX-like operating systems and command-line operated software.
    • Proficiency in programming languages (R, Python, Bash).
    • Experience with high-performance computing, database management, and AWS cloud environment (desirable).
    • Able to work autonomously in a multidisciplinary team and prioritize workload effectively.
