We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Genetic Pathologist to join our team at Mater Pathology. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented professional to contribute their expertise in the field of genetic pathology.

Salary: $150,000 - $200,000 per annum (commensurate with experience)

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that molecular genetic pathology testing at Mater Pathology meets the highest standards and complies with all relevant guidelines and standards. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinically appropriate advice and information to clinicians;
  • Ensuring staff are appropriately qualified and trained to perform testing;
  • Verifying that equipment and methods are suitable for testing;
  • Ensuring results and interpretations are accurate and unambiguous, and important findings are reported to clinicians in a timely manner;
  • Participating in external quality assurance programs to ensure satisfactory performance.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in a broad range of current molecular genetic testing and diagnosis techniques;
  • Experience with microarrays, exome sequencing, and massively parallel sequencing;
  • Able to manage processes and staff in a clinical environment;
  • Skilled in teaching and training of staff and students;
  • High level of interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively and co-operatively as a member of a team;
  • Specialised knowledge and understanding of human genetics and its relevance to medical practice;
  • Ability to use clinical judgement and knowledge to deal with unexpected, atypical, and complex cases;
  • MBBS or equivalent qualification;
  • FRCPA (Genetic Pathology) registration; and
  • Registration with AHPRA (no restrictions).
