Job Summary:

Suncorp is seeking an experienced Financial Control Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of insurance accounting, including balance sheet reconciliation services, payments, and reporting.

The primary purpose of this role is to:

  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of insurance accounting, including balance sheet reconciliation services, payments, and reporting.
  • Ensure that financial controls are in place and followed to safeguard the integrity of the accounting and reporting for general insurance business.
  • Follow the Financial Control month end close process, including assisting with the preparation of journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Continuous improvement of process to affect a shortening of the number of days from month end to ledger close and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the review and analysis of daily workflow, quality, and timeliness of reconciliations and related processes.
  • Escalate any high-risk issues promptly to Senior Accountant - Financial Control and Offshore Team Leader Reconciliation Services.
  • Assist with ensuring that designated reconciliations and accruals/journals are performed in an accurate and timely manner according to timetables and ensure that they conform to guidelines and/or procedures.
  • Assist with the approval and review of monthly journals and identify opportunities for standardization and process improvement.
  • Contribute to the quarterly, half-year, and annual statutory, regulatory, and management reporting requirements.

What You'll Bring:

  • 2+ years of accounting experience in the financial services industry with emphasis on General Ledger accounting, regulatory, and financial reporting where large computerized systems are utilized.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent relationship and service levels with customers/stakeholders.
  • Liaising with external and internal auditors in relation to the audit action items including prompt resolution.
  • Implementing and complying with the Group's accounting policies.
  • Proactively identifying and implementing initiatives to improve the effectiveness of financial reporting processes currently undertaken within the team and by our offshore partners.
