About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Epidemiologist to lead the epidemiological and statistical data analysis and provide research project support for our team at SAHMRI.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct high-quality research with a focus on health, health services, and aged care services for older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Contribute to the activities of the collaborative research between AHE and ROSA, focusing on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals in aged care settings.
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively with AHE, ROSA team, research partners, consumer representatives, staff, and stakeholders of the research project.
  • Support and embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander governance in the research, including working closely with the ROSA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee.
  • Liaise, coordinate, and support the ROSA team on new and existing ethics amendments required for the research in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to (including leading) the preparation of papers for publication in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
About You

The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:

  • PhD in Epidemiology, Statistics, Data Science, or a related discipline, as well as demonstrated experience contributing to research projects relating to the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander organisations or communities is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency working with SAS, R, or Stata (at least in one statistical software package) and with large population-based datasets independently.
  • Knowledge of systems and processes to support the collation and management of high-quality data and accuracy in research.
  • Understanding of the Australian and additional Indigenous specific ethical requirements and processes of human research.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare sector in Australia, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Maternal and Child Health Care Providers, Advocacy Community Groups, and community groups.

  • Some travel interstate and intrastate, including to urban, regional, or remote parts of South Australia, may be required.
