Deputy Director of Research

The role requires a high level of expertise in leading and developing excellent performance across hospitals. The Deputy Director will play a critical part in driving research excellence, ensuring that the department operates effectively.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to lead our research efforts and make a positive impact on the community. We are looking for someone with exceptional leadership skills, who can establish and maintain excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

The successful applicant will be responsible for implementing the Research Directorate Operational Plan, participating in planning to ensure that this plan fulfils the requirements for accreditation.

About the Role:
  • Lead and develop excellent performance across hospitals
  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with stakeholders providing a knowledgeable, competent, accurate and timely service
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of the annual Research Directorate Operational Plan, ensuring the department meets the relevant targets set in the Strategic Plan
  • Develop, monitor and manage the Research Governance Unit and departmental budget and working with the Research Director to identify new revenue streams
  • Manage the secretariat support of the Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC), Animal Ethics Committee and Institutional Biosafety Committee and ensuring that these committees are constituted and operate in accordance with legislation and guidelines
  • Provide advice to individuals involved in research relating to matters of ethical, legal and insurance requirements and the requirements of the research related committees

We require a strong understanding of Australian law and standards relating to research activity and an ability to work collaboratively in a large organisation. The successful applicant will have experience in managing and administrative units and substantial management experience in a research institution.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Participating in the provision of research services including grants, events, education and research promotion and facilitation
  • Establishing and maintaining excellent relationships with stakeholders providing a knowledgeable, competent, accurate and timely service
