Job Summary:

The Lead Effects Technical Director is a key role within our team, responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of complex visual effects. This position requires a strong technical background, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and create intricate visual effects, including simulations, particle systems, and composites.
  • Collaborate with the FX, VFX, and CG Supervisor to ensure high-quality results and meet project deadlines.
  • Develop and implement new techniques and tools to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to the team, ensuring consistency and excellence in all aspects of visual effects.
  • Partner with other discipline leaders to identify opportunities for improvement and collaboration.
  • Coach and mentor junior artists to develop their skills and advance their careers.
  • Work closely with Production to plan and execute shotwork, ensuring timely and budget-friendly delivery.
  • Oversee the overall visual effects and simulation pipeline, ensuring it is on schedule and within budget.
  • Collaborate with Talent Management to provide performance feedback, guidance, and mentoring to artists.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in Houdini software and proficiency in Python or Vex.
  • 10+ years of production experience, including leadership roles in film visual effects.
  • Strong understanding of Linux, Unix, and other relevant technologies.
  • Demonstrable experience in mentoring and developing artists.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
