About the Role

The Australian Capital Territory is seeking a highly skilled Policy Officer to join the Stakeholder Engagement and Governance team in the Policy Branch, Work Safety Group. As a Policy Officer, you will play a critical role in leading engagement with employer and employee representative stakeholders on issues related to work health and safety, workers' compensation, and industrial relations regulatory frameworks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Secretariat Support: Provide secretariat support for relevant committees and other local, national, and inter-jurisdictional fora.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with stakeholders and clients, both internal and external to the ACT Government, and build productive working relationships.
  • Representation: Represent the ACT Government and the directorate as required.
  • Policy Advice: Provide advice on policy and program issues related to workplace health, safety, worker's compensation, and/or industrial relations.
  • Research and Analysis: Undertake research and analysis to assist with the review, improvement, and development of policy and legislation.
  • Project Support: Support the development and implementation of multiple key projects for the Group.
  • Document Preparation: Draft ministerial reports, briefs, submissions, and other complex documents for the Government, Ministers, and the Directorate.
Requirements
  • Communication Skills: Have highly developed written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work with people across different levels.
  • Teamwork: Be a collaborative team player and also able to work autonomously.
  • Organisation: Be organised and solutions-focused.
  • Values and Code of Conduct: Understand and work within the ACTPS Code of Conduct and ACTPS values of respect, integrity, collaboration, and innovation, and model behaviour consistent with the ACTPS Respect Equity and Diversity framework.
Eligibility
  • Tertiary Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in law, workers' compensation, work health and safety policy, and public policy is highly desirable.
  • Coordination and Secretariat Experience: Coordination and secretariat experience.
