About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Horticulture Tradesperson to join our team at Melbourne and Olympic Parks. As a key member of our Horticulture and Sports Turf team, you will play a crucial role in delivering exceptional grounds and facilities for our events and precinct.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in horticulture and sports turf management, with a focus on operational planning, teamwork, and strategic planning. You will work closely with our team of experts to ensure the delivery of high-quality outcomes that meet the needs of our clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the presentation of the precinct's open spaces, ensuring they meet the high standards set.
  • Prepare and plan the annual site maintenance programs.
  • Participate in AO planning to ensure site readiness and presentation standards have a continuous improvement focus.
  • Delivery of the precinct's Tennis Clay courts, ensuring high standards are met through planning and programming.
  • Management of service providers to ensure best practices are maintained with a constant focus on improvements and adjusting to industry trends.
  • Assist in the delivery of the sports turf management program across all Venue playing surfaces.
  • Ensure safety is at the forefront, assisting in the implementation and ongoing improvement of all OHS requirements within the precinct.

Teamwork

  • Work closely with the M&OP team of horticulture and sports turf experts.
  • Collaborate with a high-performing team (day-to-day management of tasks required throughout the precinct).
  • Provide direction and support to direct reports to ensure outcomes are in line with business plans and are executed.
  • Ensure achievement and development plans are in place for all team members.
  • Support and contribute to department budgetary processes, including planning and forecasting for the Financial Year ahead.
  • Engage leaders and staff from across the organisation in continuous improvement, building a culture of shared endeavour to a common goal.

Strategic Planning

  • Support in developing a long-term strategy as it relates to Horticulture and Sports Turf management at M&OP.
  • Contribute to the broad M&OP strategic planning in the Horticulture and Sports Turf management area of expertise to ensure the business delivers on its purpose and commitments.
  • Review and provide recommendations for workforce planning to ensure future capability and resources.

Requirements

  • Certificate 3 in Horticulture (Parks and Gardens and/or turf management).
  • At least 5 years' experience in the Horticulture industry.

Key Relationships

  • Reporting to Horticulture and Sports Grounds Coordinators.
  • All relevant tenants, stakeholders, and venue hirers.
  • All MOPT external contractors.
